Understand the importance of water in immunity
How does water affect our immunity?
Maintaining adequate water intake on cold days is harder than in summer, isn't it? But in times of coronavirus, this attitude can end up costing our health dearly!
Do you know how water affects our immune system?
Let us tell you!
Imagine that thecells in our bodyare"soldiers"ready to attack invaders.
One of the main weapons of these soldiers is water. So, if the amount of water decreases, our soldiers become weakened and may allow moreinvaders to take over our body.
And this, of course, directly affects our health, as it throws off balance something that was meant to work naturally.
This process is calledcellular hydration,which serves precisely to keep our cells hydrated so they don't shrink and die.
In addition, it is important to remember Immunoglobulin A (IgA), responsible for the antibodies of immune defense: when we don't drink enough water, the production of saliva, tears, and mucus decreases, reducing IgA activity, which also reduces thebody's ability to fightmicroorganismsinvaders.
That's why it is important to always maintain the adequate water level in the body: 35 ml per kg of body weight. That means: if you weigh 60 kg, you need to consume 2,100 ml of water per day.
Tips tomaintainand monitor whether yourbodyishydrated:
Fill one or more bottles with the amount of water you need to drink per day;
Take small sips of water throughout the day;
You can supplement your water intake with juices and teas, but don't replace it! Pure water is important for better absorption by the body.
Be careful with very hot showers: they dry out the skin and require more effort to keep it hydrated.
Keep an eye on your urine: if it's light-colored, it's a good sign that your body is hydrated!

Although water goes through a treatment process before reaching our homes, it travels a long way through pipes and may end up contaminated with some sediments. Learn more about this topicin this material.
